Exhibition 'The Girl with the Pearl Earring, from the Past to the Present'

From 6 June to 31 August 2025, the Vermeer Centrum Delft will host the exhibition ‘The Girl with the Pearl Earring, from the Past to the Present’ by René van den Berg. The exhibition consists of 18 works of The Girl with the Pearl Earring, in which digital artist van den Berg was inspired by the silence and mystery in Vermeer's works.

‘Art is timeless, but the way we experience it is constantly evolving.’

In his work, van den Berg seeks to bridge the gap between past and present, where tradition and technology merge. The passion for painting, the choice of materials, the influence of the environment, colour and design: a constant quest. A brush on the canvas, an incessant urge to create. This is the essence of his art. With a focus on digital art, René van den Berg uses techniques such as Photoshop, Procreate, AI-driven art and 3D rendering to transform and reinterpret historical masterpieces. His style ranges from minimalist portraits to bold, realistic reconstructions in which the boundaries between classical and digital blur.

From the Past to the Present

In the exhibition ‘From the Past to the Present’, René van den Berg pays tribute to Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring and explores how art adapts to an increasingly digital world. By placing the girl in different contexts – from dreamy, illuminated environments to fashion-inspired realism and contemporary interpretations – a dialogue between tradition and innovation is created.
