To discover the life of Johannes Vermeer, Delft is a living museum that is wonderful to explore at your own pace.
If you like, ask for the Vermeer walking tour at the Vermeer Centrum or at the Visitor Information Point (TIP). It shows all historical points in the centre of Delft linked to Vermeer. The walking tour is available for 2 euro.
Vermeer is buried in the "Old Church" which is only about 5 minutes walking from the Vermeer Centrum. The beaitiful sagging tower of the Oude Kerk is a landmark of historic Delft and dates back to the middle ages in the year 1246.
You will find a simple tombstone with Vermeers name inside, where he was buried in 1675.

Another way to get a closer look to Delft at Vermeers time in the 17th century, is a visit to the Prinsenhof Museum. It gives a unique impression of the artistic and scientific life at that time and also shows paintings from other painters that lived in Delft at Vermeers time.
Dont forget to pay a visit to the beautiful gardens behind the museum. Also, in the same courtyard the small shop "Winkeltje Kouwenhoven" is a small gem with a shop interior from the end of the 19th century.
